Lucille042-rThis first HealthEyou issue of 2015 spotlights several outstanding programs and services The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) offers to keep you as healthy as you can be.

First, be sure to mark your calendar for the Healthy Family FunFest being held on Sunday, Feb. 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. This fun-filled event, co-sponsored by HOCC, features health information, speakers, screenings, demonstrations and activities for everyone—children through seniors. Admission is free, so bring the whole family. For more information, visit the Health Family FunFest Facebook page.

Keeping hearts healthy is the mission of our Division of Cardiology. In this issue you’ll read about what the division is doing to promote women’s heart health, restore normal heart rhythms and— thanks to its new infusion center—give patients with congestive heart failure the treatment they need without having to be admitted to the hospital.

Hope and healing will be even closer to home for people with cancer when the new Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut opens this spring. The spacious, state-of-the-art facility testifies to our determination to make the finest care readily accessible to central Connecticut residents. Watch for a formal ribbon-cutting in June.

I also wanted you to know about our bariatric (weight-loss) surgery program for those struggling with severe obesity. Our program, which continues to serve the Greater New Britain and Southington community, is part of the Farmington-based Hartford HealthCare Center for Weight Loss Surgery. Learn about what we offer at or call 866-668-5070.

As always, we hope you’ll enjoy reading HealthEyou, and we welcome your comments and suggestions to In the meantime, best wishes for good health throughout the year.
